The Flu and Respiratory Infection Vaccine

Another widely debated issue concerns the flu vaccine and its potential effects on other respiratory infections.

Studies comparing vaccinated children with unvaccinated children have traditionally been rejected by the U.S. government as «unethical.» However, researchers in Hong Kong conducted a study focusing on the flu vaccine.

According to the information presented, this is one of the few recent studies in which a true placebo was used to compare the results with those of the vaccine.

The results showed that people who received the flu vaccine contracted other respiratory infections at a rate 5.5 times higher than the group that received a placebo.

According to this interpretation, a person who gets vaccinated in the hope of protecting themselves from the disease could be significantly increasing their risk of developing other respiratory illnesses.

The figure of 5.5 times higher risk comes from a study published in the Oxford medical journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

The study was a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The researchers used an inactive saline solution as the placebo, unlike other trials that would have used active placebos containing ingredients used in vaccines.

The participants were followed for an average of 272 days.

The vaccine used was Vaxigrip, manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur. The trial included children aged 6 to 15. A total of 69 children received Vaxigrip, and 46 children received a saline placebo.

Regarding its effectiveness against the flu, the authors wrote:

«There was no statistically significant difference in the risk of confirmed seasonal influenza infection between recipients of the TIV (trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine) and those who received a placebo.»

According to this interpretation, flu vaccines did not provide any significant benefit.

The authors added:

«Recipients of the TIV had a significantly lower risk of seasonal influenza infection, based on serological evidence.»

This serological evidence refers to the presence of antibodies generated following vaccination, a criterion commonly used to measure vaccine efficacy.

However, it is noted that vaccinated children were 5.5 times more likely to contract respiratory illnesses.

Results Presented

Type of infection Vaccinated Placebo vs. Saline
Seasonal Flu 58 88
H1N1 Swine Flu 58 0
Total number of flu cases 116 88
Rhinovirus (common cold) 230 59
Coxsackie/Echovirus 160 0
Other respiratory viruses 97 29
Total other viruses 487 88

Based on these results, it is argued that the vaccinated group had a higher incidence of respiratory illnesses.

There is also evidence of a higher incidence of infections caused by Coxsackievirus and Echovirus, viruses associated with conditions such as meningitis, paralysis, hepatitis, and heart disorders.

The polio virus is also mentioned; it can initially present as a respiratory illness and, in rare cases, can lead to similarly serious consequences.

Implications

The authors consider the implications of this study to be significant.

They suggest:

«Receiving the trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV) could increase immunity to the flu at the expense of reduced immunity against other respiratory viruses, through some unknown biological mechanism.»

They also propose an alternative explanation based on the temporary immunity generated following infection with influenza viruses and on the response of the immune system’s protective cells.

According to the interpretation presented in this article, the introduction of antigens via injection could alter natural immune response mechanisms that protect cells without the need for external antibodies.

Final Reflection

The debate over vaccines, the use of mercury in their manufacture, and their potential health effects continues to spark controversy around the world. From a natural health and chiropractic perspective, it is essential that people educate themselves, evaluate the various available sources, and actively participate in decisions regarding their health and that of their families.
