Your natural toothpaste
Ingredients for Homemade Remineralizing Toothpaste:
· 5 Parts of Calcium Powder
· 2 parts of Baking Soda
· 3 parts of Xylitol powder – This ingredient isn't strictly necessary, but it removes the bitter taste.
· 3 to 5 parts of coconut oil to achieve the desired texture
· Optional ingredients: Flavoring essential oils (peppermint, cinnamon, and orange are good choices), grapefruit seed extract, myrrh, and trace minerals.
[Note: To keep things simple, I just use a teaspoon or a tablespoon, depending on the size of the batch I'm making, so the recipe would call for 5 tablespoons of calcium powder, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, etc…].
How to Make Natural Remineralizing Toothpaste
1. In a bowl, mix all the powdered ingredients (calcium, baking soda, xylitol) thoroughly. If you’re starting with calcium tablets, grind them into a powder in a food processor. If you’re starting with capsules, empty them into the bowl.
2. Add coconut oil at the same time until you reach the desired consistency.
3. Add the optional ingredients, including essential oils for flavor (my favorite is Menthol Orange)
4. Store the mixture in a small container, such as a half-liter glass jar. To use it, you can dip a clean toothbrush into it, or use an ice cream stick or a spoon to scoop out the mixture for your toothbrush. I’ve also thought about storing it in a plastic bag with a corner cut off so I can squeeze it out, just like we do with the pasta, but I haven't tried it yet.
