Personal Hygiene Recipes

The next time you go to the store, take a moment to stop by the aisle with toothpaste, shampoo, and body wash. Read the labels.

On the label, you'll see chemicals who have a bad reputation due to a long list of crimes they have committed tasks in humanity. Headaches, cancer, skin problems, aging, and other health issues are among those listed.

The only solution is to make your own toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and body wash—and it's much easier than you might think.

Homemade Toothpaste

Why not make a toothpaste that will strengthen your gums and reduce bacteria in your mouth? You can easily make it with this recipe:

Ingredients

3 heaping tablespoons of diatomaceous earth as food
8 “00” 500-mg capsules of cat's claw herbs (Uncaria tomentosa)
licorice root powder, 1 teaspoon
1 tablespoon of alfalfa
1 teaspoon of stevia leaf

Indications

1. Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl.
2. Transfer the mixed toothpaste powder to an empty yogurt cup.
3. When it's time to brush your teeth, dip your wet toothbrush into the toothpaste powder and scoop up about half a teaspoon of herbs.
4. Brush your teeth, gums, and tongue with the herbs. Rinse thoroughly, and your teeth will feel exceptionally clean for hours.

Each of these ingredients has its own antimicrobial properties. Years ago, people used to chew on licorice sticks to clean their teeth and mouths of bacteria. Stevia is a sweet herb, but it has the ability to inhibit the streptococcus bacteria that cause tooth decay. And diatomaceous earth (don’t buy the variety intended for use in swimming pools) whitens teeth while providing silica to the gums.

Homemade Shampoo

Ingredients

225 g of Liquid Castile Soap
57 gm of coconut milk (canned or the light version)
16 drops of organic, non-synthetic essential oil

Indications

1. In a blender, mix the liquid Castile soap with the coconut milk for no more than 10 seconds.
2. Next, add the essential oils. Choose the ones you like best. To start, choose just two different essential oils to mix into your shampoo. Once you’ve gained more experience, add up to six different essential oils to your new shampoo.
3. Mix the ingredients with a spoon and pour the mixture into a bath jar.

The essential oils in this recipe have antimicrobial properties, and the shampoo will keep well for at least a month.

Homemade Shower Gel

Ingredients

¼ cup of fresh, unfiltered honey
8 drops of jojoba oil
¼ cup of olive oil
225 g of liquid Castile soap
16 drops of pure organic essential oil (geranium, sandalwood, lavender, chamomile, sweet orange, rose, or ylang-ylang)

Indications

1. In a blender, add the Castile liquid soap, olive oil, and honey. Blend until thoroughly combined.
2. Mix it with the jojoba oil and the essential oils you've chosen. You can start with these ingredients and try different combinations over the next few months. Write down your recipes so you'll know which ones worked well for you the next time you make another batch.
3. Mix the ingredients for no more than 10 seconds.
4. Pour it into a container that you'll use in the shower and that has an opening with a stopper.

Homemade Soap

The easiest way to start making your own soap is to take the leftover pieces of soap you already have and melt them down in a double boiler designed specifically for this purpose. Here's the recipe:

Ingredients

450 grams or more of soap pieces
One teaspoon of olive oil or coconut
8 drops of essential oils
A double kettle
Soap molds

Indications

1. In a double boiler, add the soap pieces and heat them over low heat until they melt.
2. Next, put on your experimental hat and add a teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil to the soap.
3. Now it's time to add the scent. Add 8 drops of organic, non-synthetic essential oil that soothes the skin and has a lavender, chamomile, rose, or lemon scent. You might want to mix them all together—and why not? It's your soap!
4. Once all the soap pieces have melted and your house smells wonderful, pour the soap into lightly oiled soap molds to let it set.
5. After one day, check to see if the hardening process has begun. Remove them from the mold and let them harden at room temperature for at least one week before using them.
