25 Foods That Can Kill Cancer Stem Cells More Effectively Than Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy
A new scientific review identifies the 25 best foods and substances that can kill cancer stem cells at the root cause of their malignancy.
There are hundreds of natural ingredients that have been studied and have been shown to have anticancer activity (see more than 600 research databases ), but only a small subset of these have been shown to attack and kill the cancer stem cells that lie at the root of the cancer's malignancy.
Turmeric, for example, is something we've discussed a number of times on this “an effective killer” of properties to identify only the core of cancerous tumors. Recent preclinical research has shown that ginger contains a compound that is up to 10,000 times more effective than Taxol, the drug used in chemotherapy, at killing cancer stem cells in breast. Even common foods, such as blueberries, have special anti-cancer properties, as explained in a previous article: Research: Radiation therapy causes cancer; blueberries eliminate it.
A new study published in the journal *Cancer Research* titled, “Natural Products That Target Cancer Stem Cells,” has made our job much easier in identifying this special category of cancer-fighting compounds by reviewing existing research on the topic and compiling a list of the top 25 substances in this category. They are listed below, along with some of their commonly recognized food sources:
- Epicatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) – Green tea
- 6-Gingerol – Ginger
- β-Carotene – Carrots, leafy greens

Why are these substances so important?
The main reason is that the Conventional Chemotherapy and the Radiation therapy has failed in bringing about any significant improvement in the cancer survival rates This is because cancer stem cells are highly resistant to these treatments.
In fact, chemotherapy and especially radiation They are both capable of increasing the number and virulence of these tumor cells, while at the same time it is well known that they have the side effect of further damaging the patient's immune system.
Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical industry remains highly resistant to incorporating these effective substances into its cancer treatments (a highly unethical stance).
There is a growing number of healthcare professionals who will not turn their backs on the truth and are very interested in alternative ways to prevent and treat cancer using food and/or plant-based treatments.
A new study examines the importance of stem cells cancerous as follows:
The cancer stem cell model suggests that tumor initiation is driven by a small subset of differentiated cells with stem cell-like properties; these are therefore referred to as cancer stem cells (CSCs).
CMCs possess self-renewal properties and intrinsic survival mechanisms that contribute to tumors' resistance to most chemotherapeutic drugs.
The failure to eradicate CMCs during the course of therapy has been thought to be due to the existence of these cell subsets as the driving force behind tumor recurrence or reappearance and metastasis.
Recent studies have focused on understanding the unique phenotypic properties of cancer stem cells in various types of tumors, as these properties provide clues as to how these cells underlie self-renewal and drug resistance.
To date, the pharmaceutical industry has not produced a single drug designed to kill the population of cancer stem cells found within tumor cells, as confirmed by this study:
While it is true that the response to CMCs is a key criterion for evaluating cancer treatment, there are still no drugs in clinical use that specifically target and kill cancer stem cells.
The ability to target cancer cells, and in particular, cancer stem cells, while it is extremely important to leave non-tumor tissues intact.
In the source of this article, there is a section for a database to index these research studies substances, and there are sixty-seven of them . A section is also being created that compiles research on cancer stem cells, an issue that will undoubtedly be central to many future cancer treatments—assuming that the priority is, in fact, to alleviate suffering and not to profit from patients.
