Water is essential to maintain natural health and well-being. In our Chiropractic Center in Mataró, we explain how proper hydration can positively influence your body and mind.

The importance of water

Did you know that the thirst mechanism is so weak that 37% in humans mistakes it for hunger? Even imperceptible dehydration will slow metabolism as much as a 3%.

Did you know that a glass of water will quell hunger in the middle of the night in almost 100% of cases on a weight loss diet, according to a study conducted at the University of Washington?

Did you know that a drop of as little as 2% of water in the body can cause: momentary memory loss, difficulty with basic math and trouble focusing on a computer screen or printed page?

Did you know that drinking a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day decreases the risk of Colon Cancer by 45%, in addition to lowering the risk of Breast Cancer by 79% and halving the chances of developing Bladder Cancer?

According to experts, this is not optional; MANDATORY if we want our brain to function optimally. And if we are stressed we should increase to 16 glasses of water a day. 90% of the volume of our brain is composed of water and it is the main vehicle of electrochemical transmissions. You can't imagine what 8 - 10 glasses of water per day can do to eliminate many discomforts! People normally do NOT drink such an amount to avoid the discomfort of urinating often; minor inconvenience in exchange for improving their health.

If the color of your urine is not a very pale yellow, or better yet, colorless, it means that you are not drinking enough water (this does not apply if you are taking B vitamins, which produce a natural yellow color). Drinking water does not refer to coffee, tea or soft drinks. Osmotic water is the best.

Preliminary studies indicate that drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day could significantly alleviate many discomforts in 80% people. Throw away the antacids and cure your heartburn.

Heartburn can be a sign of a lack of water in the upper gastrointestinal tract. This is an important thirst signal emitted by the human body. Ingestion of antacids or heartburn tablet medications do not correct the dehydration and the body continues to suffer as a result of not getting enough water. Tragedy: Failure to recognize that heartburn is a symptom of dehydration and treating it with antacids will eventually lead to stomach inflammation in the duodenum, hiatal hernia, ulcers and eventually cancer in the gastrointestinal tract, including the pancreas and liver.

Water can prevent and cure arthritis (rheumatic joint pain). Arthritis It can be a lack of water in the joints. It can affect both young and old and the use of pain relievers does not cure the problem and causes further progression of the disease. Drinking water will alleviate this problem.

Back pain Back pain may be a sign of lack of water in the discs of the spine, which are the shock absorbers that support the weight of the body. These discomforts should be treated by increasing the amount of water to drink. TragedyFailure to recognize back pain as a symptom of dehydration in the joints and treating it with painkillers, massage, acupuncture and eventually surgery. Over time this will cause osteoporosis when the cartilage cells in the joints eventually die and cause a deformation of the spine, leading to physical disability of the lower limbs.

Angina pectoris (Chest pain) May be a sign of lack of water in the body between the heart and lung axis. This symptom should be treated by drinking more water, until the patient no longer has pain and without taking medication. It is prudent to have a medical supervision, even so, if the amount of water ingested is increased, angina pectoris can be cured.

Migraine Migraine can be a symptom of lack of water required in the brain and eyes. Migraine can be prevented by preventing dehydration of the body. This particular type of dehydration eventually causes swelling in the back of the eye and possibly a decrease or loss of vision.

Colitis Colitis is a sign of lack of water in the large intestine. It is associated with constipation due to the constriction of excess water that is exerted on the stool, which in turn loses the lubrication provided by water. TragedyFailure to recognize colitis as a symptom of lack of water will lead to a condition of persistent constipation resulting in a compaction in the stool which in turn can cause diverticula, polyps and hemorrhoids and increase the likelihood of colon and rectal cancer.

Type II or Adult Onset Diabetes Adult-onset diabetes is another likely cause due to dehydration of the body. To maintain an adequate amount of water in the circulation and for the priority needs of the brain insulin secretion is inhibited to prevent water from entering the body's cells. In diabetics only some cells get enough water to survive. Drinking water reverses adult-onset diabetes in the early stages. Tragedyby not recognizing that in adult-onset diabetes, the complication of dehydration, over time, can cause massive damage to blood vessels throughout the body. This can later lead to loss of everything from toes to even legs through gangrene and blindness.

Cholesterol in the blood High cholesterol levels are indicators of early body dehydration. Cholesterol is a clay-like material that adheres between the spaces of some cell membranes to prevent them from losing their vital moisture due to the stronger osmotic pressure of the blood circulating in the vicinity. Cholesterol, apart from being used in the manufacture of nerve cell membranes and hormones, also acts as a “shield” against the water demand of other vital cells that normally exchange water through their cell membranes. Depression, loss of libido, chronic fatigue symptom, lupus, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy. All of these conditions can be the cause of prolonged dehydration. If this is the cause, it will be alleviated once the body has been regularly hydrated. In these conditions muscular exercise should be part of the treatment program. Now the question is:

Are you drinking the right amount of water daily?
