Vaccines and Mercury
According to Natural News, the controversy over the continued use of mercury in some vaccines—despite the proven toxicity of this element—has led the United Nations (UN) to consider enacting a new treaty that would ban the use of mercury in medicines worldwide.
According to a report prepared by consumer advocate Tim Bolen, the vaccine industry is very concerned about this potential ban, as it could spell the end of the industry as we know it.
Although thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative, has been used in vaccines since 1930 and has been removed from the vast majority of them—especially those intended for young children—many vaccines, including the flu vaccine, still contain it.
This means that millions of children are being injected with a known neurotoxin that, according to this position, continues to be used without valid justification and primarily for the convenience of the pharmaceutical industry.
At the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to Prepare a Global Legally Binding Instrument on Mercury (INC5), held from January 13 to 18, 2013, delegates from around the world were to decide whether to adopt a resolution restricting the use of thimerosal in vaccines.
According to various reports, many of the vaccines containing thimerosal have been banned in developed countries such as the United States and Canada, while they continue to be distributed in developing countries, especially in Africa, where an increase in cases of autism and neurological damage has reportedly been observed.
Dr. Mark Geier, M.D., Ph.D., a member of the African Delegation to the United Nations Treaty, explained:
«Thimerosal, used as a preservative, is favored by the pharmaceutical industry because it is inexpensive and allows the industry to continue manufacturing vaccines in old, unsanitary factories. Unfortunately, thimerosal also causes developmental problems, mental retardation, and autism in children who are susceptible to mercury.»
He also added:
«Boys are more susceptible to mercury poisoning than girls because testosterone increases the toxicity of this poison.»

According to these sources, banning mercury would seriously impact the pharmaceutical industry. It is claimed that only a minority continues to believe that thimerosal is harmless, as various studies link it to autism, brain damage, and hundreds of other diseases.

Despite this, it continues to be added to certain batches of flu vaccines and to vaccines distributed in countries with less stringent safety regulations.
At the same time, an international movement has gained momentum to permanently ban the use of thimerosal in medications. According to Bolen, a global ban could lead not only to the collapse of the vaccine industry, but also of a large part of the pharmaceutical industry, due to the volume of lawsuits filed by parents of children affected by alleged vaccine-related injuries.
Bolen states:
«If thimerosal were removed from vaccines worldwide, neurological problems in children would undoubtedly almost disappear in future generations.»
And he adds:
«Lawsuits against the industry, despite existing laws, would never end. And those lawsuits wouldn’t just come from individuals; they would come from every country, state, school, or any other entity. This would be the bloody end of the entire pharmaceutical industry—probably forever.»
