A True Story

The story of Professor Jane Plant, a geochemist and chief scientist at the British Geological Survey—a prestigious British public institution dedicated to geological research—,

She can serve as a significant role model for many women, as she has survived five breast tumors and the conventional medical treatments for her cancer.

And she has done so, as she herself says, in a very simple way: by eliminating all dairy products from her diet. Her story is similar to that of many other women. She felt the same panic when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and, trusting in the expertise of the oncologists, she underwent a mastectomy and radiation therapy to her ovaries because she was told that this would induce menopause, estrogen production would be suppressed, and the cancer could be cured. But it all turned out to be false. In fact, The cancer recurred up to four times. ‘I had a mastectomy, and I underwent radiation therapy and very painful chemotherapy.”.

’I was examined by the most eminent specialists in my country, but deep down I was sure I was facing death. And I was on the verge of giving up.", explains Professor Plant in her book *Your Life in Your Hands*, in which she recounts her own experience and explains how she came up with the idea that saved her life.

"Following my husband's trip to China," she writes in her book, "I began to realize that my disease was virtually nonexistent in that country." In fact, only one in every 10,000 women dies of breast cancer in China, whereas in the United Kingdom alone, official figures show one in every 12.

So my husband—who is also a scientist—and I began to research the lifestyle and diet of people in the East until we came up with the idea that saved my life: Chinese women do not get breast cancer, nor do men develop prostate tumors, because they are unable to tolerate milk and therefore do not drink it. What’s more, we learned that The Chinese are unable to understand Western concerns about drinking cow's milk.

They never use it—and certainly not to breastfeed their babies! And if you stop to think about it, it can't be a mere coincidence that more than 70% of the world's population has been unable to digest lactose. ’What I believe today is that nature tries to warn us in time that we're eating the wrong food.".

When Jane Plant began thinking about all this, she was undergoing chemotherapy for her fifth breast tumor. And that’s when she decided to completely eliminate dairy from her diet, including all foods containing any milk: soups, cookies, cakes, margarine, etc. And what happened? ‘In just a few days,” she writes in her book, “the tumor began to shrink.” Two weeks after my second round of chemotherapy and one week after cutting out milk and dairy products, the tumor started to itch. Then it softened and began to shrink. About six weeks later, it had disappeared.”.

In fact, my oncologist at Charing Cross Hospital in London couldn't help but exclaim in amazement, ‘I can't find it!’ when he examined the area where the lump had been.

Apparently, he didn't expect that someone with such advanced cancer—it had already spread to my lymphatic system—could survive.

Fortunately, that oncologist managed to overcome his initial skepticism and now recommends a dairy-free diet to his patients.

Convinced that giving up dairy products was what had saved her life, Jane Plant decided to share her knowledge and experience in the aforementioned book. Immediately, more than 60 women suffering from breast cancer contacted her to ask for advice.

His tumors also disappeared.

‘Although it wasn’t easy to accept that a substance as ‘natural’ as milk could have such health implications,” Plant explains, “I now have no doubt that the link between dairy products and breast cancer is similar to that between tobacco and lung cancer.”.

But that’s not all, because, for example, as early as 1989, Dr. Daniel Cramer of Harvard University determined that these products are linked to the development of ovarian cancer. And the data on prostate cancer point to similar conclusions. The World Health Organization (WHO) itself states that the number of men diagnosed with this cancer in China is 0.5 per 10,000, while in the United Kingdom the figure is 70 times higher.

’The key, then, is undoubtedly the consumption of dairy products.".

For Professor Plant, cow’s milk is a great food… but only for calves! And she is convinced that nature did not intend it to be consumed by any other species. ‘In fact, I’m convinced,’ she concludes, “that I saved my life by stopping drinking cow’s milk. I just hope that my experience can help more women and men who, without realizing it, may be sick because of the dairy products they consume.”.

In his book, in addition to details about his own experience and interesting facts about his research on the effects of cow’s milk on our health, he offers a series of nutritional recommendations that boil down to eating mainly soy milk, herbal tea, sesame seeds, tofu, nuts, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
