Neck Pain in Mataró: Is Your Neck Pain Serious?

Doctors of chiropractic are experts at identifying the different types of neck problems.

When Is Neck Pain More Than Just Neck Pain?

When do we get a sign that something more serious might be involved?

Typical pain

Typically, neck pain is caused by a strained muscle, and one side of the neck may be more painful than the other. But when neck pain is accompanied by other symptoms, it can be a cause for concern.

For example, neck pain accompanied by vomiting and a stiff neck may indicate meningitis. If you cannot touch your chest with your chin and are experiencing drowsiness, confusion, and/or sensitivity to bright lights—call a healthcare professional immediately.

Neck pain accompanied by weakness in the arms and tingling in the fingers may indicate a herniated disc, which is pressure on a nerve root caused by a narrowing of the spinal canal. Chiropractic care may be helpful for you.

Do you have neck pain and trouble moving your head without pain? This may be a sign of fibromyalgia, a condition that causes pain in the muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons.

It could also be a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder that affects your joints, especially those in your feet, knees, and hands.

Accidental

Neck pain following a traffic accident is commonly known as «whiplash», because when the neck is struck from behind, it tends to snap forward and then backward, causing what is known as cervical acceleration-deceleration (CAD) trauma or syndrome.

Most people experience neck pain at some point in their lives. Chiropractors are trained to help identify and often relieve the causes of neck pain, restoring normal mobility to the neck and other affected parts of the body. In addition, chiropractors are experts at determining whether you have a relatively minor problem or whether you need to be referred to another type of healthcare professional.

Please let us know about any neck pain you may be experiencing, whether it is severe or not. After a thorough examination, we will try to restore normal sensation and function to your neck and other affected parts of your body, or refer you to a professional who can help you.

Ongoing care will help ensure that the muscles and joints in your neck and back remain in optimal working condition so that you can live a vibrant life to your fullest potential, without any restrictions.
