Chiropractic care can be an effective and natural solution for managing allergies. At the Marc Bony Chiropractic Center in Mataró, we explore how chiropractic adjustments can improve your well-being.
What is an allergy?
An allergy is an exaggerated immune response to substances that are normally harmless. The substance to which a person is allergic is called «allergen», and the resulting symptoms are defined as «allergic reactions».(Allergies and Chiropractic)
When we are allergic to something, the immune system mistakenly believes that this substance is dangerous to the body. In an effort to protect the body, the immune system produces IgE antibodies for this allergen.
These antibodies cause certain cells in the body to release chemical mediators into the blood; one of them is histamine. Histamine acts on the eyes, nose, throat, lungs, skin, or gastrointestinal system and causes the typical symptoms of an allergic reaction. Future exposure to the same allergen will trigger an antibody response once again.
This means that every time you come into contact with the allergen, you will have an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can range from mild, such as a runny nose, to severe, such as difficulty breathing. Asthma attacks, for example, are often allergic reactions to something inhaled by a susceptible person.
Some types of allergies cause various symptoms, and in rare cases, an allergic reaction can be very severe—this reaction is called anaphylaxis. Associated symptoms include difficulty breathing and swallowing, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, or other parts of the body, dizziness, or loss of consciousness. Anaphylaxis is rare and usually occurs moments after exposure to an allergen.
Nature vs. Nurture / Allergies and Chiropractic
Ever since the dawn of conventional or allopathic medicine, we have been told that the cause of any health problem, illness, or ailment comes from outside the body. This long-held belief holds that external factors—such as parasites, microbes, germs, bacteria, chemicals, or other agents—enter the body and disrupt its functions.
The approach has always been this: “The cause comes from the outside and affects the inside.”. So, with the aim of eliminating the enemy, conventional medicine continues to seek an external solution. In other words, every solution offered by traditional medicine is meticulously designed to be invasive (such as medications, vaccines, injections…), and then administered to modify, destroy, control, stimulate, or inhibit the disease.
But this principle is already obsolete!
Think about your children. They spend their days at school or daycare with many other children their own age. Every now and then, there will be some germs “floating” in the air. Some children will get sick, and others won’t. Does this mean that the germ only attacks the children it likes?
Or could it be that these children don't have strong enough defenses, in which case it means the problem comes from WITHIN, from a malfunction of the immune system? That is the chiropractic philosophy.
Since its inception in 1895, chiropractic has maintained that The cause of any illness or ailment lies WITHIN the body; it stems from an internal imbalance or abnormal functioning of organs or systems, which leads to a poor adaptation to external factors..
So, healing must come from the INSIDE out!! If we restore internal balance, the body regains 100% of its adaptive powers and can heal itself
So, healing must come from the INSIDE out!! If we restore internal balance, the body regains 100% of its adaptive powers and can heal itself. In the case of allergies, once again, traditional medicine will advise staying away from allergens.
When that is not possible, he or she will prescribe various medications such as antihistamines, corticosteroids, or cromoglycates which act on H1 receptors, blocking the effects of histamine and thereby relieving the main symptoms of allergies, such as
sneezes,
conjunctivitis,
a runny nose…
For the Doctor of Chiropractic, Action must be taken on the nervous system, the control center, the system that controls and coordinates all the body's functions.
A disturbance in the nervous system or subluxation It affects the immune system, which results in a loss of the body's ability to fight off allergens. Chiropractic adjustments eliminate subluxations, restoring internal balance so that the body can heal itself. With chiropractic care, healing comes from the inside out. Allergies and Chiropractic: A Good Combination
A comparative study of the health status of children under chiropractic care and under allopathic care concludes that
96.5% of children receiving chiropractic care do not have asthma
compared to 95% in children undergoing allopathic or conventional medical care. Therefore, the immune systems of children who have grown up receiving regular spinal adjustments are better able to fight off allergens.

(J Chiro Res 1989; 5:101-3 In a study published in the November/December 2000 issue of Today’s Chiropractic, 47 patients with persistent asthma caused by allergies were followed for 2 years. The care provided consisted of specific spinal adjustments. Most patients began with three visits per week.)
The results were positive for ALL patients. Improvement was evident in the form of symptom relief and a reduction in the use of medications for asthma attacks. Furthermore, ALL patients reported that their improvement had been sustained 2 years after the study! www.quiropractica1.com
