The sacrum; the lower part of our spine

The Lower Part of the Spine
Interestingly, the sacrum is formed differently in women than in men to make childbirth possible.
The two bones that reside at the base of the spine have two things in common: The sacrum, a fairly long and triangular-shaped bone located at the base of the spine, is nestled between the hips. It connects the base of the lumbar region of the lower spine to the coccyx.
The functions of this bone are to stabilize the pelvic area. As with other vertebrae, many nerves emerge from each side of the sacrum, including the sciatic nerve.
An interesting detail about the sacrum is that its shape is different in men than in women. In women, it is shorter and wider than in men and is positioned differently to increase the size of the pelvic cavity to facilitate childbirth.
The male sacrum is more uniformly curved and larger than the female sacrum. Marc Bony, Quiropractica1.com If you have questions, connect on facebook to ask them.
