Chiropractic and Drug-Free Sleep Disorders

I explain how to combat insomnia or problems related to sleep disorders.

There are many types of sleep disorders, which can be grouped:

  • Problems staying awake (narcolepsy)
  • Problems maintaining a sleep schedule
  • Unusual behaviors during sleep (sleepwalking, night terrors)
  • Problems falling asleep and staying asleep (insomnia)

Sleep disorders often arise as a consequence of some illness or imbalance in the body, and this is how it expresses itself. So some of the causes may be:

  • Anxiety, hyperthyroidism, pain-causing illnesses, psychiatric disorders, depression, abuse of hypnotics, sleep apnea
  • Snoring, obesity
  • Chronic hypersomnia at an early age
  • Bruxism, emotional stress, restless legs, iron deficiency anemia, chronic kidney failure, diabetes mellitus, Parkinson’s disease
  • Medications such as sedatives, antihistamines, neuroleptics, or antidepressants

Some effects of getting little sleep (less than 6 hours each night)

  • Heart aging
  • Risk of insulin resistance
  • High blood pressure
  • Risk of severe dementia or Alzheimer’s
  • Psychosis or mental impairment
  • Lack of concentration and productivity
  • Blood toxicity
  • Immune system dysfunction

The ideal amount of hours for an adult ranges from 6 to 9 hours of sleep per night.

What can chiropractic do for sleep disorders?

Chiropractic and sleep disorders, how can chiropractic adjustments help you? Among many other things, it helps control anxiety levels, regulates cortisol levels, and allows patients to stop using sleep medications in a very short time after starting chiropractic treatment, as these are only temporarily helpful, affect many other aspects of the body, and have very noticeable and rapid side effects.
