Bipolar Syndrome

Scientific Study Chiropractic Management for a Man with Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Hemichorea, and Subluxation Allison Kennamer B.A., D.C. Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research – October 20, 2008 – Pages 1-4 Abstract Objective: To review the characteristics of a 52-year-old man diagnosed with bipolar disorder who sought chiropractic care presenting symptoms of anxiety and hemichorea movements.

Bipolar Syndrome Clinical Features:

The bipolar patient seeks medical attention for lower back pain while exhibiting depression with episodes of anxiety attacks associated with hemichorea. Intervention and outcome: He was adjusted using the knee-chest technique of the protocol and informed about the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. After 4 visits, the hemichorea associated with his anxiety attacks had disappeared, and his state of depression had improved.

Conclusion:

This case is significant on many levels. It suggests that chiropractic care may have a positive effect on bipolar disorder and chorea movements. Further research is needed to investigate the effects of chiropractic on bipolar disorder and hemichorea.
