The Importance of Water

Did you know that the mechanism of thirst is so weak that 37% of humans confuse it with hunger? Even imperceptible dehydration can slow metabolism by as much as 3%.

Did you know that a glass of water will quell hunger at midnight in almost 100% of cases on a weight-loss diet, according to a study conducted at the University of Washington?

Did you know that a decrease of just 2% of water in the body can cause: momentary memory loss, difficulty with basic math, and problems focusing on a computer screen or printed page?

Did you know that drinking a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day decreases the risk of Colon Cancer by 45%, as well as reducing the risk of Breast Cancer by 79% and cutting the chances of developing Bladder Cancer in half?

According to experts, this is not optional; IT IS MANDATORY if we want our brain to function optimally. And if we are stressed, we should increase to 16 glasses of water a day. 90% of the volume of our brain is composed of water and it is the main vehicle for electrochemical transmissions. You can’t imagine what 8 – 10 glasses of water a day can do to alleviate many discomforts! People usually do NOT drink that amount to avoid the inconvenience of frequent urination; a minor inconvenience in exchange for improving their health.

If the color of your urine is not a very pale yellow, or better yet, colorless, it means you are not drinking enough water (this does not apply if you are taking B vitamins, which produce a natural yellow color). Talking about drinking water does not refer to coffee, tea, or soft drinks. Osmotic water is the best.

Preliminarily studies indicate that drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day could significantly alleviate many discomforts in 80% of people. Throw away the antacids and cure your heartburn.

Heartburn can be a sign of lack of water in the upper gastrointestinal tract. This is an important thirst signal emitted by the human body. The ingestion of antacids or tablet medications for heartburn does not correct dehydration and the body continues to suffer as a result of not obtaining enough water. Tragedy: By not recognizing that heartburn is a symptom of dehydration and treating it with antacids, it will eventually lead to stomach inflammation in the duodenum, hiatal hernia, ulcers, and eventually cancer in the gastrointestinal tract, including the pancreas and liver.

Water can prevent and cure Arthritis. (Rheumatic Pain in the Joints) Arthritis can be a lack of water in the joints. It can affect both young people and adults, and the use of painkillers does not cure the problem and causes the disease to continue progressing. Drinking water will alleviate this problem.

Back pain Back pain can be a sign of lack of water in the spinal discs, which are the shock absorbers that support the weight of the body. These discomforts should be treated by increasing the amount of water consumed. Tragedy: Not recognizing back pain as a symptom of dehydration in the joints and treating it with painkillers, massages, acupuncture, and eventually surgery. Over time, this will cause osteoporosis when the cartilage cells in the joints eventually die and cause a deformation of the spine, leading to physical incapacity of the lower limbs.

Angina pectoris (Chest pain) can be a sign of lack of water in the body between the heart and lungs. This symptom should be treated by drinking more water until the patient no longer has pain and without taking medications. It is wise to have medical supervision; however, if the amount of water ingested is increased, angina pectoris can be cured.

Migraine Migraine can be a symptom of lack of water needed in the brain and eyes. Migraine can be prevented by avoiding dehydration of the body. This particular type of dehydration eventually causes inflammation in the back of the eye and possibly a decrease or loss of vision.

Colitis Colitis is a sign of lack of water in the large intestine. It is associated with constipation due to the constriction of excess water exerted on the stool, which in turn loses the lubrication provided by water. Tragedy: By not recognizing colitis as a symptom of lack of water, it will lead to a condition of persistent constipation that will result in compaction in the stool, which can cause diverticula, polyps, and hemorrhoids and increase the likelihood of developing colon and rectal cancer.

Type II or Adult Diabetes Adult diabetes is another likely cause due to dehydration of the body. Maintaining an adequate amount of water in circulation and for the brain’s priority needs inhibits insulin secretion to prevent water from entering the body’s cells. In diabetics, only some cells receive enough water to survive. Drinking water reverses adult diabetes in the early stages. Tragedy: By not recognizing that in adult diabetes the complication from dehydration can eventually cause massive damage to blood vessels throughout the body. This can later lead to loss from the toes to even the legs due to gangrene and blindness.

Blood Cholesterol High cholesterol levels are indicators of early body dehydration. Cholesterol is a clay-like material that adheres between the spaces of some cell membranes to prevent them from losing their vital moisture due to the stronger osmotic pressure of the blood circulating nearby. Cholesterol, besides being used in the manufacture of nerve cell membranes and hormones, also acts as a “shield” against the water demand of other vital cells that normally exchange water through their cell membranes. Depression, loss of libido, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy. All these conditions can be caused by prolonged dehydration. If this is the cause, it will be alleviated once the body has been regularly hydrated. In these conditions, muscle exercise should be part of the treatment program. Now the question is:

Are you drinking the proper amount of water daily?
