Chiropractic and intestinal health

Is there a connection between Chiropractic and intestinal health?
If a chiropractor works on the spine, how could that help improve intestinal health? This is a good question.
There are many types of intestinal diseases
– Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis
– and irritable bowel syndrome,
– leaky gut syndrome,
– and infections from Candida yeast.
Each of these disorders may have a different cause, but they all have something in common: the digestive system, which is innervated by nerves that connect to the spine.
The treatment for Crohn’s disease includes harmful corticosteroids that have negative long-term side effects. One of the side effects is the suppression of the immune system, leaving a person vulnerable to many different infections.
When your chiropractor adjusts the spine, they remove any interference acting on the nerves. Your digestive tract is controlled by the autonomic nervous system, which consists of sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves.
The anatomical sphincters in the digestive tract are controlled by the nerves from the lower part of your spinal cord.
The vagus nerve innervates all digestive organs. This nerve begins in the central nervous system of the brain.
When the rectum fills with digested food matter, the nerves pick up the sensation of fullness. They transmit this message to the brain.
When the need for a bowel movement arises, the brain sends the message to the rectum that it must empty. The muscles near the rectum relax so that the movement of the intestines can begin.

Studies on intestinal diseases and Chiropractic
Japanese researchers published their report in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, in which they believe there is evidence supporting a relationship between spinal misalignments and the symptoms of Crohn’s disease. They found the connection by analyzing the results of another study. [kad_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUZmgAET3K8″ width=200 height=100 ] In the study, over 3,000 patients with allergies were compared to over 1,000 patients without allergies. Scientists discovered that when patients received chiropractic adjustments, those with Crohn’s disease showed improvement in their symptoms. In fact, in some of them, the symptoms disappeared completely. [pullquote align=center] The lead researchers believe that chiropractic care is the solution to intestinal disorders. [/pullquote]
Another study found that chiropractic care patients definitely felt their spine improved after an adjustment, but there were also other significant benefits. Twenty-three percent of over 1,500 questionnaires returned by patients to the researchers indicated that after receiving chiropractic care, they found it easier to breathe, their vision was clear, sharper, and better, and they had improved digestive function. Circulation was also reported to be better.
And another study from 2008 involving three infants with constipation that was not relieved by laxatives, cod liver oil, or mineral oil showed good results once they started chiropractic care. All three newborns improved their bowel movements to once a day immediately. They received chiropractic care for a period of time ranging from three weeks to three months.

Many people try to give reasons for not going to the Chiropractor
Of course, there are a lot of detractors out there who will never agree. They say there is no relationship between the spine and the digestive organs, thinking that digestion occurs completely independently of everything else in the body. They ignore what basic anatomy consists of and make statements like the origin of spinal nerves does not connect with the organs. What they forget is that the origin of spinal nerves emits other nerves that end in the digestive organs. If there is a pinch at any point along the route, that is when digestive function has the potential to be interrupted.
They are even capable of saying things like: “The spine is generally very unimportant in terms of keeping a bag of bones and organs functioning smoothly.”
This is false.
If you have any digestive issues, do not neglect to schedule an appointment at your center with a good professional and start your chiropractic care.
