Disc Hernias Affect the Brain
If you unfortunately have one or more disc hernias, this is of interest to you. Learn how disc hernias affect the brain.
A group of Spanish researchers has made the finding using advanced neuroimaging techniques.
They have studied the cerebral cortex, the white matter nerve fibers with the connection patterns between different brain areas. With this technique, they have been able to see changes that could not be appreciated with magnetic resonance imaging.
The researchers conclude that:
We have demonstrated that there are changes at the brain level and in the pathways of communication of brain signals that manifest mainly as cortical atrophy and damage to the sensory and motor cortex
A disc hernia, among other things, compresses the spinal cord, and besides preventing the information that the Nervous System should provide from passing through, it can cause damage to the brain.
About 80% of the population will suffer from a disc hernia at some point in their life.
When a patient has a disc hernia, it not only affects the back, it can also affect the arms, legs, motor difficulties, sphincter alterations (depending on the area where the hernia is located), and as has been recently seen, the brain as well. All these symptoms are the consequence of the hernia preventing information from passing through the spinal column, meaning there is compression in the spinal cord.
Dr. Bernabéu Sanz,
“In the future, this type of analysis using artificial intelligence could be used to identify patients with operable compressive cervical spine injuries and even establish the most appropriate time for surgery”
The only solution for disc hernias, is not surgery.
Did you know that with chiropractic adjustments you can reduce pain and hernias?
It has no side effects, like surgery, which assuming that the surgery goes well still has its side effects, you will be convalescing for a while, you will have a wound, and they will touch the spinal column, which can have long-term side effects, you will take medication that can also cause side effects.
