Spinal misalignments are the cause of many health problems.
We explain what they consist of
Many of our back and neck ailments can have different causes; psychosomatic, emotional, digestive, poor posture, accidents or trauma, sedentary lifestyle, sports and overexertion, wear and tear of joints, childbirth and birth, falls that occurred when we were children, or even chemical causes.
Our spine is a complex structure that, while allowing us mobility, also protects our nervous system. The spine is surrounded by a set of muscles that range from the most superficial layers to the deepest ones, including the corresponding tendons and ligaments.
The deepest skeletal muscles are responsible for autonomously maintaining the vertebrae in their correct position so as not to harm the nervous system.
Between the joint formed by each vertebra, there is a space called “conjunction foramen” through which spinal nerves, veins, and arteries must pass.
But what happens when, due to the aforementioned causes, the skeletal muscles of the spine lose their strength?
When the muscles stop working properly, the joints of the vertebrae become compressed, misaligned (like a suction cup stuck to glass), lose their mobility, and it is then that the so-called spinal misalignments occur.
THE EFFECTS;
When we suffer from spinal misalignments (subluxations), the spinal nerves are compressed between the joints formed between the vertebrae (“conjunction foramen”).
When the nerve is compressed (we can imagine a stepped-on water hose), its permeability is altered and it does not correctly transmit the nerve impulses that are conveyed through electrochemical processes, and it is at that moment that the body begins to lose coordination between the brain (CNS) and the rest of the organs and glands (PNS). This will affect the endocrine system and metabolism, thereby diminishing the capacity for proper functioning of the organism.
Thus, we enter the vicious circle, cause-effect and effect-cause… Imagine how an orchestra would sound if the musicians could not see their conductor…
A VICIOUS CIRCLE
A cause, such as a fall, stress from incorrect postures or tensions from work, can lead to spinal misalignments with uncomfortable consequences and symptoms of pain, and in turn, can cause a chemical imbalance and malfunction of our organism.
Many of the causes we cannot avoid; falls when we were young, trauma, stress, wear and tear…
But we can maintain good spinal hygiene if we perform proper maintenance and become aware of the importance of this part of the body and how it can affect us if it is misaligned.
“As a Chiropractor specialized in spinal adjustments, I recommend regular check-ups of the spine before symptoms of pain and discomfort in the cervical, dorsal, or lumbar regions appear.
A good diet, stretching, physical exercise, and good postural, mental, and emotional hygiene will help us maintain a healthier spine. But it is important to keep in mind that spinal misalignments are the cause of many health problems, regardless of the pain and discomfort they cause.”
