Impact of Chiropractic on Autism: Study

Autismo y Quiropráctica

Chiropractic care can have a positive impact on children with autism. In this article, we explore how chiropractic adjustments, especially in the upper cervical region, can improve symptoms of the autistic spectrum. Discover the details of this research.

Autism and Chiropractic and

Research

on its beneficial effect

Autism and chiropractic research Objective: To report on the results after chiropractic upper cervical care in a child with various neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, ADHD, etc. Clinical characteristics: patients aged 10 to 11 with a medical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, bipolar disorder, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder or autism and chiropractic who often present with main pain in the upper thoracic area.

A chiropractic examination revealed an abnormal asymmetric posture, poor balance, and disorganization of locomotion and lack of leg control.

Subluxation was analyzed using a Tytron C-5000 thermography scanner, and the analysis of supine leg length, and the upper cervical X-rays. Indicated that there was upper cervical subluxation. Intervention and results: Patients underwent eight weeks of treatment using the upper cervical protocol. The adjustment frequency was once a week. Each visit was reviewed with the Tytron thermographic scanner and the analysis of supine leg length. They did not receive any other treatment or lifestyle modifications during this period. After each adjustment, their subluxation indicators were no longer present. At their 8-week reevaluation, their abnormal and asymmetric posture was almost completely symmetrical and their balance had improved. Their upper thoracic pain resolved in four weeks.

Conclusions: Autism and chiropractic

In this case, children diagnosed with ASD, ODD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD, who also had posture asymmetry with reduced limb coordination. Showed significant improvement in posture control and balance after two months of applying cervical subluxation chiropractic technique. Given the increase in the population of children with such problems, it is imperative that more research is conducted. And wait to further evaluate the role of chiropractic care in treating children with these neural disorders.   Research sources: The journal; David Russell, BSc (Psych), BSc (Chiro), Cert TT
