Ingredients for a Homemade Remineralizing Toothpaste:
· 5 Parts of Powdered Calcium
· 2 parts of Baking Soda
· 3 parts of Powdered Xylitol – this ingredient is not entirely necessary, but it removes the bitter taste.
· From 3 to 5 parts of coconut oil to achieve the desired texture
· Optional ingredients: Flavor essential oils (mint, cinnamon, and orange are good), Grapefruit Seed Extract, Myrrh, and Trace Minerals.
[Note: To keep things simple, I just use a teaspoon or tablespoon, depending on the size of the amount I am making, so the recipe would take 5 tablespoons of powdered calcium, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, etc…].
How to Make Remineralizing Natural Toothpaste
1. Mix all the powdered ingredients (calcium, baking soda, xylitol) well in a container. If you start with calcium tablets, grind them into powder in a food processor. If you start with capsules, empty them into the container.
2. Add coconut oil at the same time until you achieve the desired consistency.
3. Add the optional ingredients, including the Essential Oils for flavor (my favorite is Menthol Orange)
4. Store the contents in a small container the size of a half-liter glass jar. To use it, you can dip a clean toothbrush in it, use a popsicle stick or a spoon to put the toothbrush in. I have also thought about storing it in a plastic bag with a cut corner to be able to squeeze it like we do with toothpaste, but I haven’t tried it yet.
If you do not want to try making your own toothpaste, consider using one of these simple alternative ingredients.
