Impact of Chiropractic on Autism: Study

Chiropractic can have a positive impact on children with autism. In this article, we explore how chiropractic adjustments, especially in the upper cervical region, can improve symptoms of the autism spectrum. Discover the details of this research.

Autism and Chiropractic

Research

on its beneficial effect

Autism and chiropractic research Objective: Inform about the results after upper cervical chiropractic care in a child with various neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, ADHD, etc.

Clinical characteristics: patients aged 10 to 11 years with a medical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, bipolar disorder, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder or autism and chiropractic who usually present with primary pain in the upper thoracic area.

A chiropractic examination revealed an abnormal asymmetric posture, poor balance, and disorganization of locomotion and lack of control of the legs.

Subluxation was analyzed using a Tytron C-5000 thermography scanner and the analysis of supine leg length, and the upper cervical X-rays. They indicated that he had upper cervical subluxation. Intervention and results:

Patients underwent eight weeks of treatment using the upper cervical protocol. The adjustment frequency was once a week.

Each visit was reviewed with the Tytron thermographic scanner and the analysis of supine leg length. They did not receive any other treatment or lifestyle modifications during this time period. After each adjustment, their subluxation indicators were no longer present.

In their 8-week re-evaluation, their abnormal and asymmetric posture was almost completely symmetrical and their balance had improved. Their upper thoracic pain resolved in four weeks.

Conclusions: Autism and Chiropractic

In this case, children diagnosed with ASD, ODD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. Who also had postural asymmetry with reduced limb coordination.

They showed significant improvement in postural control and balance after two months of applying upper cervical chiropractic technique for subluxation.

Given the increase in the population of children with such issues, it is essential that more research is conducted. And to wait to further evaluate the role of chiropractic care in the treatment of children with these neural disorders.
