Many things can cause a neck to remain in an unsightly, twisted position: from fractures, tumors and herniated discs to infections, neuro-ocular system problems, and certain side effects of medications.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, these causes are relatively uncommon.   However, they should all be considered when a patient is evaluated for torticollis. Fortunately, most cases of torticollis in Matar\u00f3 involve a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #1ea000;\">cervical SUBLUXATION<\/span> - something we Doctors of Chiropractic deal with every day.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Most of the time, <strong>a blockage<\/strong> mechanical joint displacement in the neck with a displacement of the central content of the<strong> disc material<\/strong>\u00a0 has occurred. This in turn causes the joint tissues to become painfully inflamed and the neck muscles (mainly the sternocleidomastoid muscle) to be affected in a state of prolonged spasm.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Many scientific schools of thought blame the muscle spasm by itself.  And while this may be the case in certain situations, focusing on treating the muscle alone does not address the existing disorder in the shortened muscle in the first place, in other words, treating it with massage and stretching to the spastic muscle will not remedy this problem.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1ea000;\">Natural solution<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>On the other hand, a carefully administered adjustment by a Doctor of Chiropractic aimed at correcting the mechanical dysfunction that causes torticollis Matar\u00f3 will often bring immediate relief and total correction. This last, potentially traumatic cause is often the cause physicians label as <strong>\u00abcongenital torticollis\u00bb.\u00bb<\/strong> ,and is seen when infants tend to constantly turn their heads to one side.  Failure to treat this can lead to facial asymmetry in the infant's cranial development.<\/p>\n<p>Again, chiropractic can be very effective in recovery. Many of those suffering from torticollis were predisposed to suffer from it. <strong>due to problems of alterations in the normal curves of the spine<\/strong>\u00a0 (e.g., reverse neck curve or scoliosis).<\/p>\n<p>Aside from massage and stretching to lengthen the spastic muscle affected by torticollis, other medical approaches tend to target the muscle in a much more invasive manner.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #1ea000;\">Medical treatments<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This range of medical methods temporarily paralyzes the involved muscles for several months with the <strong>Botox injections<\/strong> to selectively cut the nerves that innervate the muscles involved.
