The story of Masha and Dasha Krivoshlyopova is related to chiropractic care.
The new mother was told that her twin babies had died after their birth. However, the truth was very different: they were sent to a nearby institute in Moscow for study. This was to be the fate of “Masha” and “Dasha”, one of the most unique sets of “conjoined twins”.
Anatomy
Identical twins are formed when a fertilized egg divides into two eggs. The two eggs develop into two babies that are identical in every way. Conjoined or Siamese twins are formed in the same way as identical twins, but the eggs, for some reason, are not completely independent, but remain partially connected.
The Case of Masha and Dasha
The way the twins were connected was what caused Soviet scientists to take an interest in them. Although Masha and Dasha have four arms and only three legs, they move using two of their legs, one controlled by Masha and the other by Dasha (there were five before they learned to walk), while a third leg, a vestige, remains in the air behind them.
Their upper intestines are separate, but they share a single lower intestine and rectum. They have four kidneys and one bladder, and often differ in terms of urination. They have a common reproductive system. Because their circulatory systems are interconnected, the twins share each other’s blood. Therefore, a bacterium or virus that enters the bloodstream of one twin will soon be found in the blood of her sister. However, surprisingly, diseases affect both of them differently. Dasha is nearsighted and prone to colds. Masha smokes occasionally, has a healthy constitution, higher blood pressure than her sister, good vision, and is left-handed. The twins have different health patterns, which presents a mystery for scientists.
Questions
Why does one get sick with a childhood disease, such as measles, for example, while the other does not? Measles was present in both bodies, in their collective bloodstream, so why did one of them get measles?
Evidently, this means that it is different to “have measles in the blood” and “develop the disease of measles”. This phenomenon has been observed time and again with the girls (flu, colds, other childhood diseases were all experienced separately).
If germs are the ones that have the power to cause infectious diseases, why does one of the twins escape the illness while the other was sick? What was it in their creation that made one different from the other? The answer was not hard to find. Although Masha and Dasha had a common circulatory, digestive, excretory, lymphatic, endocrine, and skeletal system (they were joined at the hips), their spinal columns and spinal cords were separated. This was the only significant difference between the two girls. In Masha and Dasha, nature’s “laboratory” devised an experiment that no human researcher could replicate.
Conclusion
These twins are an example of extraordinary, incalculable value that confirms there is much more to “catching” a disease than simply breathing in germs. Germs can only cause diseases if the body provides a fertile ground for creating that germ. The state of your nervous system can determine whether you have high or low resistance to disease. If you are suffering from illness, the health of your nervous system will play a decisive role in whether or not (and how quickly) you recover. By keeping your spine and nervous system free of subluxations, chiropractic care helps to optimize your overall health status.
