Neuropathy Treatment Barcelona

What is it?

If you have suffered from constant or intermittent pain or have felt tingling (Neuropathy Treatment Barcelona) or numbness in your extremities that simply does not go away no matter how many ibuprofens you take, you may be suffering from peripheral neuropathy.

An estimated 3% to 8% of the population suffers from this condition, a disease in which signals traveling between the body and the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) are interrupted. This causes a sensation that oscillates between pain, burning, tingling, and numbness, and may also involve weakness and muscle fatigue.

It is especially common among those with diabetes and becomes more prevalent as we age. Although nerve damage can be difficult to treat, some aspects of the condition are easier to manage than others.

Different types

Peripheral neuropathy caused by diseases such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, AIDS, and cancer are the most challenging. However, a significant percentage of cases are due to more easily treatable causes such as vitamin deficiencies and compressed or trapped nerves.

All of the aforementioned conditions can be helped to a greater or lesser extent by applying a variety of treatment options; among the most useful are improvements in diet and receiving regular chiropractic care.

Providing oxygen and nutrients to damaged nerves is key in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy, which is why it is important to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

These will nourish the nerves and help destroy free radicals that cause damage to the body’s cells, leading to interference in nerve transmission. Neuropathy of the arms and legs is the second most common condition treated by chiropractors, according to the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

When the spinal joints of the spine begin to degenerate (which is common as a person ages), it can put pressure on the roots of the spinal nerves, causing the classic symptoms of neuropathy. Chiropractors are trained to relieve this pressure by performing spinal adjustments to realign the vertebrae, releasing trapped or compressed nerves.

Studies

According to a study published by the British Medical Journal in 2004, chiropractic adjustments, “with or without exercise, improve symptoms more than medical care after between 3 and 12 months.”

And in 2008, the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine reported that “patients showed an 85.5% resolution of symptoms after just 9 chiropractic treatments.”

Chiropractic is a safe, gentle, and medication-free treatment. Effective in treating cases of peripheral neuropathy. The chiropractor can assess your particular situation and recommend a course of treatment that is suitable for you. Marc Bony, DC at the chiropractic center.
