Do you suffer from migraines?

You or someone you know closely struggles with migraines and/or headaches: sharp pain often accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light.

New research shows that Chiropractic relieves almost all headaches.

Chiropractic: Your first option to combat pain?

Chiropractic addresses the source of the problem before the pain begins. According to chiropractors, the cause of pain for many people with headaches does not come from the head, but rather from their necks.
A study shows that 84% of patients suffering from headaches have at least two significant subluxations in the cervical region (Journal of Manipulative & Physiological Therapeutics 1992; 15:418-29).

What is a Vertebral Subluxation?

A vertebral subluxation is a place in the spine where movement is restricted or when the vertebrae are misaligned.

In patients suffering from migraines or headaches, vertebral subluxations are generally located in the cervical spine and are often associated with a reorganization or reversal of the normal curve of the neck.

Vertebral subluxations are caused by many factors, such as poor posture, lack of exercise, and emotional stress.

How do vertebral subluxations cause migraines or headaches?

Anatomy

The spine is a series of vertebrae stacked one on top of the other. These vertebrae are separated by intervertebral discs, made of a gel-like substance, which absorbs shocks and acts as a cushion for the vertebrae.

Tendons and muscles connect the vertebrae to the muscles of the back, neck, and head.

At the center of the spine is the spinal cord, an important component of the central nervous system that reaches the brain approximately at the level of the nose.

Nerves extend from the spine through the vertebrae – transmitting information to and from structures throughout the body and the brain.

Scientific Studies

Scientific research indicates that vertebral subluxations trigger headaches. Researchers found two possible explanations: muscular dysfunction and nerve interference.

The muscular dysfunction hypothesis studies have shown that vertebral subluxations affect the function of the muscles, which in turn trigger muscle tension and pain.

Since the muscles and tendons connect the neck vertebrae to the head, it is easy to understand how a misaligned vertebra in the neck or back can trigger a chain reaction that disrupts muscular integrity in the head, causing pain.

This link between the spine and the muscles of the back, head, and neck explains why headaches are often accompanied by muscle pain in the neck and upper back.

Results

The nerve interference hypothesis Researchers presume that vertebral subluxations may interfere with the flow of nerves because the spinal cord is located within the spine and the spine is made up of individual vertebrae.

Specifically, vertebral subluxations can alter the transmission between the nerves that emerge between the vertebrae, the spinal cord, and the brain.

In this regard, vertebral subluxations in the upper back or neck can disrupt nerve circulation in the brain, a phenomenon observed in certain types of headaches.

How can chiropractic care eliminate headache triggers?

The Cause

Chiropractic eliminates the cause of headaches by correcting vertebral subluxations. Therefore, chiropractors apply gentle pressure to the spine called chiropractic adjustment.

These adjustments effectively restore movement and alignment of dysfunctional vertebrae. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, your chiropractor will suggest the best ergonomic changes in your workplace, specific exercises, dietary changes, or stress reduction techniques; all aimed at preventing future vertebral subluxations.

Prevention

The key to winning the battle against headaches As specialists in prevention, chiropractors not only relieve patients from their headaches but also help prevent the recurrence of pain.

This is done through regular chiropractic check-ups. Just as you visit your dentist to prevent dental cavities, visiting the chiropractor can eliminate vertebral subluxations and the headaches associated with them.

The frequency of check-ups is unique to each person based on their lifestyle, stress level, exercise program, and work environment. So ask your chiropractor what program is right for you to achieve relief.

If you haven’t had a chiropractic check-up in a while, don’t delay, make an appointment before the pain becomes chronic. Marc Bony www.quiropractica1.com or at [email protected]
