One of the most important pieces of being, aside from The Source of Chiropractic, are the educational parts that elevate your level of awareness. Today we want to share with you the 49 Breathing Meditations by Dr. Sid E. Williams.

“The 49 Breaths” are a series of breaths followed by affirmations. This form of meditation was originated by the Chiropractic Doctor, Dr. Sid E. Williams, the creator of the Essential Dynamic Meeting, and is designed to motivate the spirit and connect the physical body back to the inner source.

To begin: Remain seated on the edge of the chair, without shoes and with your feet connected to the ground. Place your hands gently on your knees with palms facing up and close your eyes. Set the intention of your meditation practice and acknowledge the moment when you step aside to return to yourself. When you are ready, place your palms facing down and begin the series of breaths. The breaths are performed by inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. When you inhale, lift your head and tilt it back as if looking at the sky or the ceiling, push your belly out, and while exhaling, tilt your head down as if looking at your abdomen or tucking your chin to your chest and pull your belly in. The number of breaths is divided into 4 series each with affirmations in between. The palms are facing down during the breaths and the palms are facing up with the spirit open during the affirmations.

• 7 Breaths -> Affirmations
• 14 Breaths -> Affirmations
• 14 Breaths -> Affirmations
• 14 Breaths -> Affirmations
• End with a deep inhalation followed by a big, extensive sigh or “Om”
Here is a sample pattern of affirmations that can be used in the blank moments with whatever you want to focus on in your life, for example, love, light, energy, strength….

I do not have to become ______
I am _____
______ lives in me
Every cell in my body is filled with ______ (joy, peace, love, light…. responsibility, faith in myself)

I am love
I do not have to become love
I am love
I am peace
And peace lives in me
I am strength
Every cell in my body is strong
I do not have to become strong
I am strong in the right places

We want to invite you to try doing these breaths every day for the next 2 weeks and see what opens up in your life. Dr. Sid recommends doing it 3 times a day…, but you can do more repetitions.
