Chiropractic and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

It is due to irritation or pressure on the median nerve. This nerve originates in the neck, travels through the shoulder, arm, and forearm, reaching the wrist and hand. It is one of the primary nerves of the hand, providing sensation and movement to the thumb, index, and middle fingers. It is often described as persistent pain with a burning sensation, tingling, and numbness in the wrist and/or hand.

It is believed that jobs requiring employees to use their hands, wrists, or arms repetitively lead workers to experience a higher incidence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Medical Treatments

The most common medical treatments include braces, splints, anti-inflammatories with or without a prescription, vitamin B6, injections, or surgery.

Chiropractic and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Chiropractic care and carpal tunnel syndrome can help you avoid surgery.

A proper assessment of carpal tunnel syndrome should include a review of the total length of the Median Nerve, starting from the neck and following its path to the hands, wrists, and fingers.

A consultation with a doctor specialized in upper cervical care is highly recommended for anyone affected by this syndrome, especially if surgery has been advised.

The purpose of upper cervical care is to correct misalignments in the neck that cause irritation to the nerve roots extending to the wrist, hands, and fingers. Clinical studies have found that it can prevent surgery.
