4 Myths About Back Pain

Myth #1

Back pain is normal as we age

Facts: Just because you add candles to your birthday cake every year, it is not normal to think that back pain is added to your life. Sure, getting older may make us more susceptible to certain ailments or discomforts that can cause back pain. You can take steps to reduce your back pain and keep your spine healthy – chiropractic care.

Myth #2

I exercise, so back pain won’t affect me

Facts: Staying fit and participating in sports will keep your back healthy. But unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee that you won’t suffer from back pain. Additionally, staying healthy involves having a proper nutritious diet, reducing stressors in your environment, and maintaining good posture.

Myth #3

I don’t have much pain—my injury can’t be that bad

Fact: Pain is a poor indicator of how serious your injury may be. Pain can appear days, weeks, or even months after the injury occurs as inflammation develops in your body. If you are experiencing mild or persistent pain, it may be time to get checked out.

Myth #4

If I have back pain, I need surgery

Facts: While everyone has experienced back pain in their life, it is not a good reason to opt for surgery immediately. If you have back pain, initially seek the least invasive solution possible. Think in this order: first chiropractic care, second medications, and third surgery. If you are suffering from back pain, make an appointment with your doctor. Back pain may be common, but it is not normal.
